Mac Mavis was born 1974 in Helsinki, Finland. Around the age of 10 he started to take guitar lessons and couple of years later started his first band. After spending few years playing in various bands, he got his first synthesizer and started listening to electronic music. After discovering possibilities of sequencing and reel-to-reel multitracking he made a decision to quit all band activities and started recording all the instruments by himself. He made his first solo studio recordings in 1992. At that time the music also had guitar and vocals. Mac´s passion for synthesizers grew even more and soon the music changed fully into instrumental electronic music.
His first single; a two song 12" was released in 1995. First Mac Mavis CD album was released in the august of 1998 by Finnish Exogenic records, who also featured MM in a four of their compilations and in 2003 came out the second Mac Mavis album: "Gatefinder". Both albums have received a number of positive rewievs and some radio airplay, especially in Finland. After some adventures and releases in the Finnish electronic music scene, Mac started to spend more and more time in his countryside cabin located in the outbacks of eastern Finland. Being far away from everything shaped his musical thinking into new direction. No surprice here that this direction was to be something relaxing and spacious. Mac Mavis career highlights have been a live performance at 2003 Amsterdam dance event and having been featured on "Electric Finland" compilation released by Finnish Music Export center. Mac Mavis song "Clear" was also featured as a story background in a Finnish television ten-a-clock news. In 2008 Mac Mavis was chosen for the "Dreams of MySpace" CD compilation wich showcases the "hidden talents" of electronic music found from MySpace.com (released by German label Spheric music).
In the beginning of 2009 Mac Mavis signed with Faria Records and new album "Report From The Lake" was released in april 2009. This CD album also has all the cover artwork done by MM himself. In the spring of 2010 MM was featured on major Finnish rap compilation "Hienoksi Tislattu". Integrating his traditional Ambient soundscapes into today´s mainstream music, Mac Mavis producted an instrumental track featuring scracthing by Dj Trip Dog. In June 2010 Mac Mavis released his first digital only
release "Bog Planet". This EP was released in the 20 years celebration of "Avaruusromua" oldest electronic music radio show Finland. Mac Mavis donated this
EP for the show and it is currently available from Yleradio/Avaruusromua web page.
